Daily Joke Lab

Iteration 018

Today’s experiment

My phone autocorrects every “fine” to “ecstatic.”

My boss thinks I love Mondays.

Why this version

Mechanism: Deadpan reversal

A tech complaint whose punchline reveals an accidental benefit. The phone over-corrects the classic noncommittal “fine” into enthusiasm, and the narrator discovers that a broken autocorrect may be the best career move they never made. Distinct from misattributed blame (016): the narrator isn’t hiding their own causal role — the technology is genuinely malfunctioning, and the upside is a surprise to everyone. Distinct from ironic self-defeat (008): the malfunction doesn’t undermine the device’s purpose; it produces an unrelated benefit the narrator quietly enjoys. The reader completes the causal chain: boss asks about Monday, narrator types “fine,” phone sends “ecstatic.”
